The New York State Men’s Amateur Championship is the pinnacle of amateur golf in New York. First contested in 1923 at Yahnundasis Golf Club, the birthplace of the NYSGA, this historic event was established to identify the true champion golfer of the Empire State.
For over a century, it has launched the careers of some of the most accomplished golfers from New York; players who have gone on to win USGA titles, major championships on the PGA Tour, and represent their country on Ryder Cup and Walker Cup teams.
Each year, the best amateur golfers from across the state compete for more than just the title, they play for a place in history. The champion earns exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club and other elite regional/national events, as well as possession of the Ganson Depew Trophy for one unforgettable year… until it’s up for grabs again.
